Es fundamental enseñar a los peques educación vial infantil desde la primera infancia. De esta forma les permitiremos ir interiorizando, a su ritmo y progresivamente, todos los conceptos importantes para su propia seguridad.
Educación vial para niños
Si en algo es especialista el ser humano es en perder el foco de lo importante. Y también la de distorsionar la percepción de la seguridad o la peligrosidad que rodea a nuestros peques. Por ejemplo, somos muy capaces de ver peligros por casa, todo son esquinas afiladas y veneno en todas las botellas…
Pero no aplicamos la misma protección en el coche, que es infinitamente más lesivo si no se utiliza una silla de coche apropiada. Y ya no solo es la silla del coche. También es la botella de agua suelta por el suelo del coche, la ventanilla bajada a tope en la autovía o la merienda de un niño que está atado en una silla… A todo esto le podemos llamar cuestiones de protección unidireccional. O sea, del adulto al peque.
Pero… ¿Y si tu peque también puede hacer algo por ti? Mi hija es quien me recuerda que no debo dejar la compra sobre el asiento o quien me recuerda que no le he revisado el cinturón. Esto ha venido a fuerza de repetir, jugar, integrar. Igual que integramos las letras leyendo carteles por la calle, los números cantando matrículas o cualquier otra cosa de nuestro día a día.
La seguridad también se enseña y no debemos dejarla en manos del azar porque, por ejemplo, cualquier cosa o persona dentro de un vehículo en marcha que no esté debidamente sujeto, puede causar una lesión al resto de los ocupantes.
Cómo enseñar educación vial a niños pequeños
¿Qué piensas cuando te digo Educación Vial infantil? Seguramente en señales y pasos de cebra. El casco de la bici y niños circulando por un circuito cerrado aprendiendo… La educación vial empieza en el coche, en su interior, que en infinidad de familias, pasan un rato todos los días para hacer viajes habituales del cole a casa, de casa de los abuelos a la extraescolar…
Poner y quitar el cinturón. Sentar al peque, que su arnés esté bien colocado. Abre y cierra el maletero. ¿Están todas las puertas cerradas? Pon el intermitente. No, ahora no puedo cambiar la música, tenemos que esperar un poquito. Y así. Eres el mayor ejemplo de tus retoños. Lo que tú hagas es lo que ellos van a hacer. Y si no hay una conciencia de la realidad, difícilmente podrán ser cautos.
Si tenéis dudas concretas siempre podéis consultarme en la Tribu CSC. Pero, de forma general, si el momento de subir, estar y bajar del coche con tus peques te parece una agonía, te propongo varias cosas que seguramente te ayudarán:
- Juega en casa. Montad un coche de juguete con cajas de cartón. Pintadlo, haced los cinturones con bufandas… Los menores de cuatro años y 18 kilos siempre a contramarcha, recuérdalo, para que cuando toque ir hacia adelante, sepan hacerlo siendo responsables de su posición.
- Verbaliza que se va a hacer un viaje, por cortito que sea. Di a dónde vais, qué vais a hacer al llegar, qué peluche o cuento pueden llevar en el coche si lo necesitan. Si el plan no les motiva, diles qué vais a hacer al llegar a casa. Seguro que encuentras algo que les apetece mucho y se enfocarán en eso.
- Prepara la playlist antes de arrancar el coche.
- Hazles partícipes de la conducción, con cosas que quizás para ti no sean importantes. De qué color es el coche que hay detrás (si van a contramarcha). De qué color es el semáforo, qué pone en la señal. Cuánta gente hay en el paso de cebra, etc. Si superan los seis años ya pueden decirte ellos cómo se pone el cinturón, dónde lo notan y si lo llevan bien o mal.
Un día mi hija se soltó el cinturón antes de parar. Reaccioné de forma brusca, pero después de pedirle disculpas por haberle gritado, me di cuenta de que jamás le había hablado de él. Ni cómo se pone, ni para qué sirve. Desde ese día, se trata todo lo que rodea al vehículo como un aprendizaje y, en la medida de lo posible, el aprendizaje se transmite como un juego. Porque integrar la educación vial infantil, hará que de mayores no tengan ni que pensarlo. Se protegerán y ya está. Y protegerán a los suyos.
