Empiezan los paseos con nuestros peques y los protectores solares se convierten en el producto más destacado de estos días. ¿Cómo elegir un protector solar adecuado? ¿Puedo exponer al sol a mi bebe? ¿Qué tipos…
Las picaduras de mosquitos pueden resultar muy molestas para los más pequeños, porque aunque no son graves ni producen complicaciones, pican mucho y el rascado puede ocasionar una infección de la piel. Por eso lo mejor es prevenirlas escogiendo el repelente de mosquitos más adecuado a la edad de nuestros peques.
Cómo tratar y prevenir las picaduras de mosquitos
No existe ningún tratamiento específico para las picaduras porque normalmente no es necesario. Si molesta mucho se puede usar un corticoide suave valorando bien si compensa los efectos secundarios. Las cremas con antihistamínicos no se recomiendan porque pueden dar reacciones con el sol, y otros tipos de productos en lociones o barritas son poco efectivas. Así que es mejor prevenir.
Para evitar las picaduras en niños se pueden usar medios físicos, como mosquiteras o repelentes. Los repelentes son sustancias naturales o sintéticas que aplicadas sobre la piel impiden que el mosquito se acerque y pique.
En los menores de 2 meses no se aconseja el uso de repelentes. Para protegerlos podemos usar mosquiteras en cuna y cochecito, puertas y ventanas. Para aumentar la eficacia de las mosquiteras, se puede impregnar el tejido con permetrina, que se puede usar también sobre la ropa donde resiste hasta 20 lavados.
A partir de los 2 meses, se puede utilizar algún repelente autorizado por el Ministerio de Sanidad, que debe tener el número de registro en la etiqueta. Esto nos garantiza que se trata de un producto lo suficientemente seguro y efectivo. Muchas veces, por buscar algo más natural, elegimos un producto no autorizado que no nos garantiza ningún efecto y tampoco mayor seguridad.
Tipos de repelentes de mosquitos y cómo elegirlos
El repelente de mosquitos, como decíamos antes, puede ser sintético o natural. Se diferencian en la potencia, la duración de la acción, la toxicidad, la variedad de insectos que repele, la resistencia al agua, la textura, el olor y otras características cosméticas.
Cómo elegir un repelente de mosquitos para niños
Elegir un repelente de mosquitos para niños u otro, dependerá de nuestras necesidades y preferencias:
- El DEET es considerado el más efectivo y es el que sirve de referencia para los demás. Es seguro en embarazadas y niños mayores de 2 años. Para proteger contra el mosquito tigre tiene que tener una concentración mínima del 20%, y a esta concentración, el efecto dura entre 6 y 12h. A más concentración, mayor duración; pero también más riesgo de efectos secundarios como irritación, urticaria o erupciones.
- El Icaridin es un derivado de la pimienta eficaz contra mosquitos, garrapatas y moscas. Al 20% tiene una eficacia y duración similares al DEET y es muy poco tóxico. No se recomienda en menores de 6 meses.
- El IR3535 es efectivo contra mosquitos y moscas. Es poco tóxico y, como mucho, puede producir irritación leve de la piel o de los ojos. A concentraciones del 20% protege durante 1-3 horas. Puede usarse a partir de 1 año de edad.
- El Citriodiol es eficaz contra mosquitos, piojos, pulgas, garrapatas y moscas. Para proteger contra mosquitos transmisores de enfermedades precisa una concentración superior al 30% con una duración de efecto de 4 a 6 horas. Es poco tóxico pero puede producir irritación ocular, por lo que no se recomienda en menores de 2 o 3 años.
¿Cuál es el repelente de mosquitos más efectivo para bebés?
La Citronela es un aceite esencial de origen vegetal, es poco tóxico y su aplicación tópica no suele provocar reacciones adversas, pero el efecto dura poco tiempo y es necesario aplicarlo cada hora. Es el único repelente de mosquitos que se puede usar en bebés a partir de los 2 meses .
Si tu bebé tiene menos de 2 meses no se recomienda usar repelentes, solo mosquiteras. Desde los 2 meses se puede usar la Citronela y a partir de los 6 meses, el Icaridín, que es muy eficaz y poco tóxico. Desde el año de edad el IR3535 es útil para pocas horas de exposición. A partir de los dos años ya se pueden usar también el Citriodiol y el DEET, que pueden proteger durante 6 horas. No queda muy bien detallado la concentración a la que hay que utilizar para que sea eficaz el ICARIDIN para que sea seguro en bebes de más de un año… Parece que al 20% es «igual» que el deet en cuanto a eficacia. la recomendación pone para mayores de 6 meses…. ¿Pero es al 20%para q sea eficaz desde los 6 meses seguro utilizarlo?
